12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit
In order to do God’s will in our life, we need to live a holy life. When we pray we ask the Holy Spirit (the bearer of all good fruits) to plant His seed of love in our heart.
The seed must fall to the ground of soil. Another name for soil is humus (Latin: earth, ground). Humility is derived from the word humus. The seed needs humus to grow. To start out we need humility to live a holy life. Humility is acknowledging that we are all sinners. We need God as our Savoir. We are not good on our own. We need God to make us good and holy. We need to die to ourselves and let God live in us.
Water is essential for the seed to grow. We must remember our baptismal promises. We are part of God’s kingdom here on earth. We take in water from the Holy Spirit. Just like the Samaritan woman talking to Jesus by the well. Jesus said, “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14).
Sunlight is another important element in helping the seed to grow. We need the Holy Spirit to be the light in our life. The Holy Spirit guides us and inspires us to help us grow and to do God’s will in our lives.
Air or oxygen is a critical part of helping the seed to grow. The oxygen breathes life to the seed so it may grow into a strong healthy plant. (Acts 2:1-4) Just like the day of Pentecost had come, the apostles were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rush of a mighty wind, and it filled the house where they were sitting. And there appeared tongues of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
As the seed sprouts and grows and eventually bears fruit. If we are living a holy life, we also grow and the fruits we bear will be the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Sacred Scripture tells us Gal. 5: 22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.
This is the version I used to illustrate the 12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit.
They will know we are holy Christians by the fruits we bear. The 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit poster will help us remember to bear good fruits and share the love of God to others. The 12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit poster is a wonderful and useful teaching tool, especially for religious education classes, Catholic schools and home schooling environment. The poster is also a great gift to give to someone.
